Upstate

In the woods and along the streams and roads

I found pokeweed and smartweed and ragweed
milkweed and ironweed and Joe Pye weed
knapweed and knotweed

I found turtleheads and cowslip
and bird's foot trefoil

I found Queen Anne's lace and black-eyed Susans

milkwort and buttercups
peppermint and wild mint
purple vetch and crown vetch
thistle and teasel and thyme

bellflowers, coneflowers and cornflowers
yarrow and asters and bluets
goldenrod and pearly everlasting
touch-me-nots and forget-me-nots
and pearly everlasting, pearly everlasting.
